Cody Rhodes’ signature for WWE has wrestling fans combing through old AEW interviews

Cody Rhodes has signed with WWE and will be at WrestleMania 38, according to a recent report from PWInsider. News has subsided almost a month after his release from All Elite Wrestling and weeks of speculation that he may or may not return to the same company he asked for his release from in 2016 and has publicly opposed him ever since. But with “The American Nightmare” expected to arrive on WWE TV soon (maybe tomorrow on Raw), fans are starting to comb through some of the old statements he made in several interviews during his time with AEW.

The first came from one of Rhodes’ appearances in AEW Unrestricted Audio notation. Tony Schiavone and Aubrey Edwards told at the time, “I want to remain Executive Vice President at All Elite Wrestling, and I told Tony [Khan] This is until I die. This is where I am, this is the end of my path. I can’t necessarily go back [to the WWE]others can change [their minds]I really can’t.”

Fans have also been searching for an old interview Diamond Dallas Page did with an AEW promotional package that led to Rhodes’ challenge Chris Jericho for the AEW World Championship in 2019 full lunge It happened. The page quoted Dusty Rhodes during the show that the only “real” thing in pro wrestling is a “first world title.”

Rhodes previously won the Ring of Honor and the NWA World Heavyweight Championship but prevented himself from ever challenging for the AEW World Championship again after losing to Jericho. Instead, he held the TNT Championship on three separate occasions before leaving the company.

But perhaps Rhodes’s brightest quote came from an episode of the Rhodes series to the best reality show as he acknowledged the mixed reaction it was generating from fans. “The American Nightmare” has consistently insisted he won’t turn heels despite growing discontent with his on-screen character throughout 2021.

“Will the new AEW suit me?” Rhodes asked. “I don’t know. But I know I won’t turn heels, I can’t do that. There [is] No bitterness in my heart, but my character is clearly not quite as clear as I thought and I don’t know if I have the energy to fix it. I’m really tired.”

Do you think Rhodes will find success again in WWE? Or will he eventually make his way to AEW again sometime in the near future? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
